Sculpting an Octopus in Curvy 3D—Because Tentacles Deserve Style

Post by Simon »

What’s more fun than sculpting an octopus? Sculpting an octopus surrounded by bubbles! Using Curvy 3D, I crafted this deep-sea wonder, ensuring every tentacle had grace, movement, and just the right amount of mischief.

The bubbles? Essential. Because no octopus should float through the ocean without a little flair. With soft move tools, I positioned them perfectly—some drifting, some popping, all adding to the underwater magic.

I made a single sucker with a Lathe. Then made a Proxy Array to make 64 suckers getting smaller and smaller in a line. Copied and Mirror Pasted to make 2 rows of suckers. Then the bulk of the tentacle is a Line object with a small Radius B. Flattened the tentacle on one side with Mesh/Deform/Trim Surface. Joined all the parts together to make a single Tentacle. Then Used Brush Strokes to make a twisted curled tentacle - with a special interest in "Initial Twist" and "Twist Along" to get the twists in the right direction for each copy of the tentacle.
