Forging Tywin Lannister’s Armor in Curvy 3D—A Sculpt Fit for a Lord

Post by Simon »

If there’s one thing Tywin Lannister taught us, it’s that power is best worn like a second skin—preferably one made of gold-trimmed, battle-ready armor. Sculpting this regal masterpiece in Curvy 3D was a journey through intricate details, medieval craftsmanship, and just the right amount of Lannister arrogance.

Step 1: Sketching the Foundation—Because Even Lords Start Somewhere

Before Tywin could stride into the throne room with his signature cold stare, his armor needed a strong silhouette. Using Curvy’s sketch-based modeling, I outlined the broad shoulder plates, chest plating, and layered textures, ensuring the proportions screamed authority and wealth.

Step 2: Sculpting the Details—Gold Lions and Noble Engravings

Once the base was set, it was time to bring the armor to life:
- The lion motifs? Fierce. Because nothing says “I own Westeros” like a golden predator perched on your shoulders.
- The deep burgundy panels? Elegant. A nod to the Lannister colors, ensuring Tywin looked as refined as he was ruthless.
- The gold accents? Immaculate. Because a Lannister always pays his debts—and his armor budget is limitless.

Using voxel merge, I refined the engraved patterns, ensuring they looked like they were crafted by the finest blacksmiths in King’s Landing. The warp brushes helped shape the ornate lion designs, making them feel majestic and intimidating.

Step 3: Painting & Texturing—Making It Look Expensive Enough for a Lannister

To make this armor worthy of the most calculating man in Westeros, I added:
- A polished gold finish—because Tywin wouldn’t be caught dead in dull metal.
- Subtle wear and tear—just enough to suggest he’s seen battle but never lost.
- Rich, deep shading—to enhance the engraved details and noble presence.

Final Touches & Rendering—A Suit of Armor Fit for a King (or the Man Who Controls One)

Once the sculpt was complete, I posed the armor in a commanding stance, ensuring it looked ready for war, diplomacy, or a particularly tense family dinner. The dramatic lighting and atmospheric effects helped enhance the Lannister grandeur, making the scene feel like a moment frozen in history.

Conclusion—Why This Was So Much Fun

Sculpting Tywin Lannister’s armor in Curvy 3D was an absolute thrill! The combination of sketch-based modeling, adaptive sculpting, and detailed texturing made the process fast, fun, and visually stunning.

2 hours.

I usually spend a long time on faces compared to the rest of the model - so this guy was quite quick with minimal sculpting.
