Sculpting Brom-Inspired Fan Art in Curvy 3D—A Dark Fantasy Creation

Post by Simon »

Bringing this haunting, antlered figure to life in Curvy 3D was an exhilarating experience! Inspired by Brom’s signature dark fantasy aesthetic, this sculpt captures the essence of mysticism, power, and eerie storytelling. The ominous tree adorned with hanging skulls adds a layer of foreboding atmosphere, making the scene feel like a moment frozen in a cursed realm.

Why Brom?

Because Brom’s artwork is bold, unsettling, and deeply immersive. His characters often feel like they’ve stepped out of a forgotten legend, carrying mystical energy and untold stories. This sculpt pays homage to his rich, textured style, blending organic forms with gothic elements.

The Sculpting Process—From Base Shape to Dark Majesty

1. Sketching the Core Structure
- Using Curvy’s sketch-based modeling, I quickly outlined the character’s stance, ensuring the proportions felt commanding and mysterious.
- The soft move tools helped refine the flow of the antlers and robes, making sure the silhouette was strong and recognizable.

2. Sculpting the Details
- Antlers & Facial Features: Using voxel merge, I sculpted sharp, branching antlers, ensuring they looked like extensions of the character’s mystical power.
- Hanging Skulls: The warp brushes helped refine the tree’s eerie decorations, making them feel like remnants of past rituals.
- Textured Armor & Accessories: A mix of inflate and deflate brushes added depth to the clothing and belts, ensuring the textures felt real and battle-worn.

3. Painting & Texturing for Maximum Impact
- Deep, muted tones gave the character a shadowy, enigmatic presence, making them feel like a guardian of forgotten knowledge.
- Lightmaps & Specular Highlights: These enhanced the metallic accents, ensuring they stood out against the dark, misty backdrop.
- Subtle shading: Added depth to the tree and skulls, ensuring the scene looked like it was steeped in ancient magic.

Final Touches & Rendering

Once the sculpt was complete, I posed the character in a commanding stance, ensuring they looked ready to channel their dark energy. The dramatic lighting and atmospheric effects helped enhance the gothic fantasy atmosphere, making the scene feel like a moment of legend.

Conclusion—Why This Was So Much Fun

Sculpting this Brom-inspired fan art in Curvy 3D was an absolute thrill! The combination of sketch-based modeling, adaptive sculpting, and detailed texturing made the process fast, fun, and visually stunning.

Hate to always ask the same question, but are these images from Curvy or rendered in another program?
Great work either way.

These two pics are straight from Curvy. I used the "View\Screenshot\Layered Screenshot" menu command to save a colour layer and an Ambient Occlusion layer and combined the two in Gimp with a Multipy mixer.
