My main focus at the moment is on getting the materials finished - but as soon as it is stable again I'll ship a Beta.

Is it already possible to test this feature in version 5.0.08 Beta? This looks like a fantastic time saver.

Yes this is in 5.0.08 Beta. Make a mesh (works well with a sphere) then use the menu "Mesh/Deform/Trim Surface". Now you can draw lines over the mesh to trim off parts.
