Re: 3D Brush Strokes

Yes please on the applications. I want to try dragon scales next - but that means sculpting a dragon first and I'm not sure I can find the time :? I like my old methods - but they feel like dead mesh, complicated and slow to model with - whereas sculpting with live meshes is much more dynamic. I'm t...

Re: 3D Brush Strokes

Yes. Just make a group of Zombies and use them as the Brush (not in current build yet). In fact I think Brush Strokes are too slow. When you get a stroke with, say, 10,000 copies of the same Zombie it will slow down. That's no good if you need 100,000 zombies on a stroke (or a surface.) I'll see how...

Re: Head Sculpt

I think about hair a lot. It's really just a bunch of Curves... but for the moment using Curvy Primitive Objects like Lathe and Loft with alphas to look like bunches and strands of hair can look good (its the way game engines do it - I've never seen particle hair in a game). And I've got plans for a...

Re: Return of Bones

Posing is going well - Not only removed keyframes, but also removing bone hierarchies too. If you want something to move you just move it. I recorded my first animation in the new realtime system (a blob with a head and an arm). Taking the skinning off the CPU and onto the GPU means it can run as fa...

Re: 3D Brush Strokes

I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of what you can do with this tool. It's stopped me thinking about just sculpting a surface and started me thinking about intertwined forms, muscle systems, organic growth. I remember a long time ago when I was learning Computer Science that it would be r...

Re: Head Sculpt

Very interesting to see Voxels used late on in the sculpt process, thanks for posting your steps.

Re: 3D Brush Strokes

Brush Strokes uses the radius of the curve for the item size (like a Curvy Line Object) So you can alter the size and number interactively.

At the moment you draw onto Frozen meshes. The little Snowflake on the groups panel to freeze an object.

Re: Dark Hero

I used Layered Screenshot to get the ambient occlusion, and switched to Z-Depth on the camera panel to save the Depth info.

Re: 3D Brush Strokes

Funnily enough I've not had much chance myself to play with this either! Apart from a few tests I'm yet to make some real models with it. You are likely to be breaking new ground :D

Re: Return of Bones

I'm updating Bones at the moment. I find that posing 1 million triangle models is such a pain that my design decisions are usually set in stone as soon as I stop sketching and start sculpting. That's not the way I like to work - I'd prefer to be able to experiment with poses and angles on my sculpte...

Re: Dr Livingstone I presume.

It's quite an art working with very low poly and seeing what you can make with just a handful of tris. I quite like artificial restrictions like this - like using a restricted palette in painting - forces you to see things differently.

Better Bumpmaps

If you load an image from a Z-Depth screenshot you usually see nasty artefacts in smooth areas from the greyscale levels stepping. I've added a better Bumpmap to Normalmap convertor that creates a smooth result in gently changing areas and a sharp result in more finely detailed areas. The stepping e...

Re: Dynamic Lighting

Finished the Light Rig creator UI (Screenshot on Patreon). Now I'm moving onto the Materials creation UI. I tried out some complex material shaders, but I think plain old bumpmaps are the best option - but I'm adding an auto UV mode so you can sculpt without texture stretching without needing to unw...
