Re: Wow! 4.0 seems awesome...

Take your time, Simon. Trust me, in the end it will be faster to make it carefully. Rushing causes bugs. Those bugs can be very hard to correct. :D

Re: Wow! 4.0 seems awesome...

SVG would be a nice open format choice, better than many proprietary/commercial formats. (Commercial formats have additional nuisance: when new versions of commercial software is introduced, new additions to the format may be introduced, but no documenation exists until someone hacks the format.) Bu...

Re: Wow! 4.0 seems awesome...

Really, Simon, if these improvements are implemented, version 4 will really be awesome! :D

Take your time. Meanwhile, I re-read manual and learned a lot. So, when version 4 is implemented, remember to update the manual afterwards!

Re: Wow! 4.0 seems awesome...

Another idea came to my mind when I was playing with line objects. Now line object's profile is circle. Could it be square? Then you could (for example, with half-circle arc curve) draw architectonic parts easier. Curved arches are parts of many things, but often they are not round in profile. Using...

Re: Wow! 4.0 seems awesome...

First of all, I'm not *against* Booleans, I have used them longer than polygons. :D What I mean is, because Curvy is very, very good with curved surfaces, *and* produces nice meshes from them, it could be the competitive edge for it. I mean, market is full of 3D apps which produce polygon-heavy mesh...

Re: Wow! 4.0 seems awesome...

Much of the lathe's and line's good behaviour with Curvy map is due to resolution slider. It does not work with cube...

Wow! 4.0 seems awesome...

There are really valuable additions coming. Those engraving tools look really good! :D However, unless booleans are really magical, I think we are getting into weak area of polygons. Booleans are bad, if they generate too much polys or if cuts are ugly. In raytracing (say, POV-Ray) booleans work, bu...

Re: Curvy for 3D Characters to be rigged?

Hi Gochris, I've animated other models (mostly in Blender) and I've always used triangles. I don't understand why Cinema would prefer quads - they are IMHO more likely to deform badly when animated. I just want to clarify this, if it's relevant to someone... All animation apps nowadays prefer quads...

Probably that's sculpted objects and Blender just shows it unsmoothed. You can smooth it inside Blender, it only changes normals, not geometry. If you make a Lathe and export it without any sculpting, it's pure quad object, very low poly. I guess Second Life likes more low poly objects? You can easi...

With commercial game engines nowadays, anything is possible. I just wanted to warn you about problems I've already seen. :D

And yes, Curvy is a good tool in experiments; I use it for sketching forms all the time. With retopo tools, those forms can be used anywhere.

Probably this is not your thing then. :D It's very fast to do, probably 15-20 mins if you know waht to do; however, polycount is not very low. The more details you have the bigger polycount. For games, I think you need to retopo, if you consider this way of modeling. I have done something to game mo...
