i use the usual shortcut.. and select the line tool but somehow it automatically goes to the draw tool. I cannot seem to get any of the usual commands to work. I have the full version and it has worked fine up until now. As the download has expired i cannot de-install and reinstall to see if that makes any difference. Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?

If you have an object selected the CREATE tools auto switch to DRAW tools. You need to close/deselect the current item with SPACE or Right Click emply space.
