Warp to Surface

Post by Simon »

Model a design in the flat, then warp it onto a surface to get a sophisticated look with minimal effort.

This is just my first test - but I can't wait to try it out on real models. Any sculpture detail that would be easier to model flat then warp to a curved surface.
At the moment this works on the curve based Curvy Primitives, but I am working on extending it to any model with a UV map.

You can use fit to surface to create "3D textures" like these individually modelled scales wrapped over a 3D surface. This example is quite subtle, but you could map any geometry to any surface.

I added a "weathered" version to show it isn't just a texture. And another with Fit to Rails.

Another one I wanted to try, chainmail:

I think if you could remove the stretching if you were careful with the curve lengths.
